Chiari malformation

A Chiari malformation is a structural defect in the cerebellum ("Chiari Malformation Fact Sheet" 2015). The term more generally applies to any of a group of such disorders which involve the brainstem, cerebellum, upper spinal cord, and surrounding bony structures (Menkes 261; Davis 236-46).

The first credited detailed clinical description of Type I Chiari malformations were by Adams et al. (1941).
