Unfavorable Semicircle

From MysteryWiki

Unfavorable Semicircle (also stylized as UnfavorableSemicircle) was a YouTube channel which went live in 2015. Due to the volume of uploads associated with the channel, it garnered a great deal of attention until it was suspended from YouTube due to terms of service (TOS) violations, likely resulting from sheer upload velocity.

History

The original "UnfavorableSemicircle" account was created on YouTube on 30 March 2015.

On 5 April 2015, the channel posted 1,247 videos, all of which were silent. It is unknown if any videos were posted before that time. The first known video posted of these over twelve hundred videos was entitled "♐980708".

A video entitled "♐LOCK" was posted on 18 July 2015. This 27 minute video features a mostly black background with series of flashing colors, occasionally revealing a single black pixel per frame.

The "♐OR" series of videos was posted on 8 August 2015. This group of videos includes "♐OR_101", "♐OR_1601", "♐OR_10001", and "♐OR_110001". It is thought that each number refers to the length of the respective video ("♐OR_101" is 1:01, or one minute and one second, long, for example).

The video "♐DELOCK" was posted on 29 December 2015.

At approximately 15:40 EST, 25 February 2016, the "UnfavorableSemicircle" was suspended by YouTube due to TOS violations. This suspension happened a few hours after "UnfavorableSemicircle" was featured in a BBC article written by Chris Baraniuk.

Investigation

On 20 April 2016, Reddit user tomasf.se discovered that if each individual frame of the video "♐LOCK" is combined into an image with a width of 197 pixels, an image is formed. It is unknown what the subject of this picture is, however.
