San Serriffe

San Serriffe was an island nation created as an April Fools' Day hoax in 1977 by The Guardian newspaper, headquartered in London. The fictional country featured in several later hoaxes and further inspired many secondary works concerning its fictional history, culture, and development.

In 1421, San Serriffe was discovered by English seafarers traveling under John Street, an admirer of Henry the Navigator.
